Living Mandala

The teaching part of the first ever PDC in Malaysia has ended and Desing time continues until tomorrows presentations. This course has changed many lives so far and the implications of the first course ever begin. First we have trained 15 new Permies. Two are Burmese refugees including a 17 year old who has been wwoofing with us at the project for awhile. She is quite an inspiration as going to school here in Malaysia is illegal since she is here illegally. Singaporeans, Malaysians, and a couple of Canadians round out the course. The teaching team has really come together and it has been a much smoother process than our last gig together in India ath reforestation project Sadhana Forest in Auroville Eco-village.

After the course ends, work just begins as literally within hours we begin our first consulting job. We have three lined up so far for the first week and are in the process of lining up some public speaking/intro courses in Malaysia and Singapore. So the network has begun to grow in Southeast Asia. Hopefully the folks at Panya Project in Thailand can begin to unite with these folks and share info, resources, seeds and more. Its just begginning here in Malaysia/ Singapore but it will grow quickly it seems. Coming back for more courses seems inevitable and looked forward to.

Malaysia is an unique blend of cultures with the Muslim majority Malays, the Indians, and the chinese popluations as well. Temples both Hindu and Budhhist, churches, and Mosques can all be found within blocks of each other in the cities. Its a conservative country that is dominated by Oil Palm plantations as well as rubber. At least they are tree crops but so much monoculture. So there is an opportunity here to influence local thoughts.

We are trying to spread the word of banana circles as so many people love to burn off their organic matter. We can start building soil and feeding ourselves by recycling our wastes in Banana circles. A lot les CO2 would be released and humus created. Things break down so quick here as it is hot and humid with lots of rainfall.

With this course a succes we move into marketing for our next course in France. We are a young traveling team looking to do as many courses together while we are young and willing to travel. So thanks for the words of support that I recieved and i hope others have inspiring courses in North America and beyond this year. Peace
Doug Crouch
