"We learn from our gardens to deal with the most urgent question of the time: How much is enough?"~Wendell Berry
"One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on the land is invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise"
~Aldo Leopold
"As we advance toward a better understanding of sutainability, I see these three systems--mycorestoration, permaculture, and living machines--as being essential components in a new model of habitat restoration. In essence, future perfection will be founded upon synergizing these three systems."
~Paul Stamets in Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World
"Oh, sweet spontaneous earth...how often has the naughty thumb of science prodded thy beauty?"

Many thanks for your response but I did not want to distrub your current reading and orther commitments.
However, I will rey to get the dissertation on a CD and send it to you. actually, study was on" The significance of sinhalese buddhist cultural beleifes and concepts of sacred in the conservation of plants in Sri Lanka" interesting piece I beleive.
we're actually working on conservation / collection of native wild frutis which has many medicinal & nutritional properties perhpas even could be developed in producing new medicines / drugs etc.
there were over 100 wild fruit trees but fast disapering and left only few and most of them destroy as weeds due to lack of knowldge.
Our other area of interest is collection and documentation of fast disapering ethnobotanical data from rural community. I would be able to send some more information on our activities but I'm not very much verstitile on sending through Living Mandela site if you could provide with my your email address, it would be fine for me to send more details and pictures.
Dear Joseph,
We're country with rich biodiversity and boasts of owneing noe of the most valuble rainforests designated under world heritage category and there some valuable medicinal plants which none has idnetified so far.
well, finding plants are the most difficult part of our project and as a developing country, we dont own much resources and with lots ocnstrains, we have been aboe to collect over 60 species so far but thre are many more around the country
we're now in the process of building un an ethno garden as a gene bank and native plant resource centre.
also, there is a wealth of home remadies through medicinal plants which could be use for the mankind with numorous aspects in day to day ailments including sex stimulant plants and liquids as well.
we're extremly sorry about fast disaperance of traditional ecological knowledge such as ancinet people used to tie a certain type of a creeper around the bottom pat of the leg when they went on hunting in order ot prevent from snakes ( we have this plant with al botnical names) then there is another yam of a certain plant used to keep in their mouth 3 hours before sex in order to stimulate. also there is another extracts of a certain wild fruit apply the underneath of women to arose the sex.
we're country with 2500 yeras culture based on agriculture, rural agriculture played a vital role in thier day to day life and plants & animals were part & parcel of thier life, but unfortunately all these has been disapering day by day and these valuable knowledge needs to be preserved for future benift of mankind.
so, these are few updates of our work and look foward to your reponse please
Peace
Damitha - Sri Lanka
Many thanks for your interest in my work and very much in pleasure to discuss some of the areas where we both are keen on in future.
Firstly, let me give you a brief background of me in plant conservation and collection of fast diminishing traditional uses of native plants from rural communities in Sri Lanka.
We are an Island with lovely vegetation with 2500 years in histroy based on agriculture and it has given a natural relationship with plants and animals combined with nature.
But Im not going to discuss the current status as common to globe and very correctly you stated "flowing energies.." most of these nature values are fast disapering.
Basically, my task involved in collection of native wild fruits and some rare medicinal plants and documentation of traditional plant usage as a part of ethnobotany.
there are many interesting things /uses related to native plants but extremly difficult to find them since elderely community members who are in possess of these knowledge fast fading away and noboday was keen on collecting thme during fast as a developing country.
So, Im in the process of building up an ethno garden with these plants and as a plant resource centre.
When talk about Sacred Plants, I had done a study with a US student in Kent University UK on conservation of sacred plants in Sri Lanka interesting piece. we as a buddhist country find many interesting areas to discuss under sacred plants category.
Also, my plan is to propagate message through sunday schools by getting young children involved in buddhist monastries & rural churchyards to plant 25 wild fruit trees in order to facilitate / build up habitat with some food for 4Bs ( Bats / Butterflies / Birds / Bees)
So, this is the basic information about me and my work and trsut we would be able to develop a productive relationship in assisting re-building the wrold in part.
Peace
Damitha
