Seeking your thoughts on a Resource-Based Economy

I was on a forum that supports The Venus Project initiative and there was discussion about what the process woud be to make a transition from a monetary-based economy to a resource-based economy. I had heard about financial permaculture communities and suggested this model as ideal for a transition: gradually moving a money supply into the community, perhaps taking on a separate currency and then weaning off a currency altogether. I am curious, for any of you involved with the development of a FP community, has there been discussion about potentially moving off of a monetary system altogether and sharing resources with multiple communities? What are your thoughts on a resource-based initiative, such as The Venus Project, as a future goal?

I think making ourselves self sufficient is the first step. We can achieve this to a very high level but not quite 100%. However, this could have a devastating effect on the economy and bring the monetary system crashing down.

Once we realise the power of automation, combined with the possibilities of efficiency, and the fact that energy is FREE, we have the potential to free ourselves from the monetary system. We just need a few people to come up with the solutions to increase our self sufficiency. This isn't far away.
